The Journey Behind the Work

I am an Australian artist based in Melbourne, Victoria, where I live in the city's northeast, surrounded by native bushland. The changing seasons, rich birdlife, and diverse Australian flora and fauna are a constant source of inspiration, inviting moments of quiet observation and connection with the natural world.

Originally from the northwest coast of Tasmania, I have always been immersed in nature. Throughout my life, both the natural environment and the creative process have offered me a sense of inner peace, reflection, and a deeper connection with myself and the way I experience the world.

I studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Tasmanian School of Fine Arts in Hobart before later completing a Master's in Art Therapy. This combination of artistic practice and therapeutic study has profoundly shaped both my career and my understanding of the creative process. It continues to influence the way I approach my work, seeing art not only as a means of expression but also as a way of slowing down, paying attention, and cultivating a deeper relationship with the world around us.

My Artistic Process

Handcrafted Frames

A woman with gray hair and glasses is sitting at a table, painting watercolor circles on paper. The table has watercolor paintings, a watercolor palette, and an art supply organizer. In the background, there are plants, a basket, and a framed piece of art.

My work begins with slowing down.

I draw inspiration from the quiet beauty of the natural world, particularly the often-overlooked details of native birds, insects, flowers, and the rich textures of Australian bushland. Taking the time to observe these small moments brings a sense of peace and connection that naturally flows into my paintings.

Each piece begins with play and experimentation. Guided by intuition, I build layers of colour, pattern, texture, and expressive mark-making before gradually bringing a focal point into view. Through semi-abstract forms and exaggerated colour, shape, and line, I aim to capture not only what I see, but how it feels to be immersed in nature.

Working primarily with acrylic paint, and occasionally incorporating oil pastel, ink, and collage, I create paintings that invite viewers to pause, look closely, and reconnect with the quiet beauty that surrounds us.

My artistic process

I handcraft each frame from Tasmanian Oak, custom-making every one to perfectly fit its individual artwork.

I have no formal training in woodworking and am entirely self-taught. This hands-on approach is an important part of my creative process, giving each piece its own unique character. Every framed artwork is carefully made, framed, and arrives ready to hang.

Please note that only canvas artworks are supplied with handcrafted Tasmanian Oak frames. Works on paper and wooden block pieces are sold unframed unless otherwise stated.
